The City of Montgomery teamed up with 2WR Architects Inc. to renovate Grocer's Alley into Montgomery's premier entertainment district. The ALLEY, currently home to Dreamland Barbeque, AlleyBAR, 129 Coosa, the Deli, Cantini, Central and SAZA's Serious Italian Food, has people coming from all over to dine, hear live music and engage in conversation over cocktails. With entrances on Commerce, Coosa and Tallapoosa Streets, and a lighted historic water tower as the landmark, the atmosphere found in The ALLEY is unmatched by any other venues in the area.
The Alley's hottest music venue and premier entertainment establishment, AlleyBAR, held its grand opening on June 5, 2009 and has had record crowds ever since. Mike Watson, CEO and President of 2WR Architects Inc. and owner of AlleyBAR describes the bar style as industrial chic. "Utilizing the original materials of the circa 1881 building; brick / wood / concrete / steel / glass and adapting them into a contemporary design setting of casual sophistication". Although the VIP lounge areas are impressive and the outdoor terraces very appealing, one of the more talked about features of AlleyBAR is the glass-enclosed frozen shot room, where friends gather to put on fur coats and sample various shots of pre-mixed and imported liquors served from ice shot glasses in near freezing temperatures.
To further enhance the entertainment experience, AlleyBAR has incorporated the "BackAlley" concert hall and special event venue which connects to the main room. This spectacular 5000 square foot "party room" hosts private events and charity fund raisers as well as some of the South's most popular musical acts. Included on the Honor Roll of Acts to perform live in AlleyBAR and on stage at BackAlley are:
